Control YouTube on your PC from your phone.
Open venfy.app/tv on the computer and link the YouTube app on your phone with the code on the screen. The app is then the remote: it picks the video, pauses it, moves through it, changes the volume and lines up what comes next, while the computer does the playing. There is nothing to install, and with no YouTube app a QR code turns any phone's browser into the remote.

How to make your phone the remote
Four steps, and the second one you only do once.
-
Open venfy.app/tv on the computer
Press Start. The screen shows a TV code for the YouTube app, and a QR code for a phone without it.
-
Link your phone
In the YouTube app, tap the Cast icon, choose Link with TV code (Add a device, in some versions) and type the code. Or point the camera at the QR code and use the remote that opens in the browser.
-
Play something
From the YouTube app, tap Cast on any video and choose Venfy.app. From the web remote, paste a YouTube link or share a video to it from any app.
-
Control it from where you are sitting
Pause, skip, move through the video, change the volume, add to the queue. The computer follows.
What you can control
Everything a smart TV lets the YouTube app control, because to the app the computer is one.
- Play, pause and seek
- The app's own controls, including dragging along the progress bar.
- Volume
- The volume control in the app changes the player's volume on the computer.
- The queue
- Add videos while one is playing, and go on to the next or back to the last.
- Subtitles
- Turn them on or off and choose the language from the app. The computer shows the ones you picked.
- More than one phone
- Anyone who links with the code on the screen adds to the queue from their own phone.
Why the old guides no longer work
Search for this and most of what comes up was written years ago. It tells you to open youtube.com/tv on the computer and pair your phone at youtube.com/pair.
Neither is there any more. In a computer's browser youtube.com/tv now sends you back to the normal site, and youtube.com/pair leads to a help page. The pairing those guides describe still exists, as the TV code, but YouTube only shows one on smart TVs and streaming devices.
Venfy is a page that shows one on a computer.
No YouTube app? The web remote
The QR code on the Venfy screen opens a remote in the phone's browser. There is no app and no account. Paste a YouTube link, or share a video to it from any app, and it plays on the computer.
It is the way in for a borrowed phone, a tablet, or a friend who would rather not link their YouTube app. Everyone who scans the code adds to the same queue.
Questions
Is there an app to control YouTube on a PC from a phone?
You already have it: the YouTube app. Once it is linked to Venfy on the computer, its Cast button and its controls work the way they do with a smart TV. There is nothing else to download.
Can I do it without installing an extension?
Yes. Venfy is a web page on the computer. Extensions that do this exist and work, but each is one more thing to install and to trust with your browser.
Does it control the YouTube tab I already have open?
No. Venfy does not reach into other tabs. It is a page of its own with YouTube's player in it, and that page is what your phone controls.
Can I control YouTube Music on my PC this way?
Not well. Venfy plays videos in YouTube's player inside a web page, and many songs only allow playback on YouTube itself. Music videos that do allow it play like any other video.
Does it work in Firefox?
Yes. The screen page works in Firefox, Chrome, Edge, Brave and Safari, on Windows, macOS, Linux and ChromeOS.
