YouTube's TV interface, on your computer.

Venfy works with nothing installed. Venfy Cast is for when you want more: it opens the interface YouTube runs on smart TVs, where every video plays and your YouTube account works. One small extension on the computer. Nothing on your phone.

How it works

  1. Add the extension to your computer's browser

    Venfy Cast works in Chrome, Edge and Brave. It is one small extension on the computer. Nothing is installed on your phone.

  2. Open the cast screen

    Press the button on this page, or the Venfy Cast button in the browser's toolbar. YouTube's own TV interface opens, full screen, the same one a smart TV runs.

  3. Link your phone, once

    The first time, YouTube asks whether to sign in or watch as a guest. Either works. Then, with the arrow keys, go to Settings (the gear at the bottom left) and choose Link with TV code. On your phone, open the YouTube app, tap the Cast icon, choose Link with TV code and type the code from the screen.

  4. Cast like you would to a TV

    From then on your computer is in the list when you tap Cast in the YouTube app, under the name Venfy.app. Pick a video and it plays on the computer, with the queue and controls you already know.

With it and without it

Both turn your computer into the screen and your phone into the remote, and both use the Cast button of the YouTube app. Use whichever suits the moment. They do not get in each other's way.

Installing Venfy Cast

Venfy Cast is not in the Chrome Web Store yet, so for now the browser has to be told where it is. It takes a minute, once.

  1. 01 Download Venfy Cast and unzip it. You get a folder called venfy-cast.
  2. 02 In the browser's address bar, open chrome://extensions (edge://extensions in Edge, brave://extensions in Brave).
  3. 03 Turn on Developer mode, in the top right corner.
  4. 04 Press Load unpacked and choose the venfy-cast folder.
  5. 05 Come back to this page. The button above changes to Open the cast screen.

What the extension does

One thing

It opens YouTube's TV interface in a tab and tells YouTube that tab is a TV. YouTube only shows that interface to browsers that say so.

One tab

Only the cast tab is affected. Every other tab, the ordinary youtube.com included, is left exactly as it was. It reads nothing and collects nothing.

One caveat

This relies on YouTube continuing to serve its TV interface this way. If YouTube changes that, the extension stops working. The rest of Venfy does not depend on it.
